Water is a basic necessity of life, that all 7.8 billion people need to survive. Even today, in the year 2021, there are 840 million (11% of the global population) that don’t have access to clean and safe drinking water. In Ethiopia, almost 60% of the population lacks basic access to drinking water. Half of those without basic access are drinking from water that is more likely contaminated.
Imagine having to live without the most basic necessity of water. Simple access to a reliable clean water source would improve their health and quality of life immeasurably.
Azoll was born with the intentions of turning the modern business world on its head by providing a product that was free to consumers, and would help bring everyone on this planet clean drinking water.
While Americans want to be healthy and are continually drinking more water, this has been harmful to our environment. Americans buy 29 billion water bottles every year, and for every six bottles purchased, only one is recycled.
This is a huge problem, water bottles do not biodegrade, but rather photodegrade. This means that it takes at least 1,000 years for every single bottle to decompose, leaking pollutants into our soil and water during this process. Because of this, U.S. landfills are overrun with plastic bottles. In fact, there are over 2 million tons of discarded plastic water bottles in U.S. landfills. Further, plastics are produced using fossil fuels, so they are not only an environmental hazard but a waste of valuable resources as well.
